In the reading of Aura by Carlos Fuentes I noticed several things, first being the style of writing. Second I noticed that some of his descriptions were very detailed in some areas and lacking in others. Thirdly, although I liked the story idea, I felt that it was highly underdeveloped . As for the book as a whole I found it to be disappointing.
             Carlos Fuentes' style of writing left a lot to be desired in my mind. It was hard for me to continue reading when the writer consistently referred to the main character as, "you", as if I was the main character. I personally do not identify with Felipe Montero and so I felt a little irritated by Fuentes' use of the word, "you". For example, "You eat in silence. You drink that thick wine, occasionally shifting your glances so that Aura won't catch you." (41) Had the writer refrained from using such a style I might have found the reading easier.
             "You glance around the room: a red wool rug, olive and gold wall paper, an easy chair covered in red velvet, and old walnut desk with a green leather top, an old Argand lamp with its soft glow for your nights of research, and a bookshelf over the desk in reach of your hand." (33) This description of Senor Montero's room speaks volumes. It actually shows the minds eye of the room as any good description should. However, I don't
             believe that there was a single good description about the girl Aura from the book is titled, beyond the description of her eyes. One who seems to be so important to the story, and the significance to the plot about her beauty, one would think that descriptions of her fabled beauty would abound throughout the novel. And yet, they seem to be completely absent. Descriptions of Felipe are also absent beyond his scholarly aptitude and brief employment history. This left me wondering if these absences were intentional on the writers part or overlooked
