W.E.B. DuBois and the Equality of Education

Unfortunately, this better education came at a price; black students were ridiculed and tormented by white students who had been conditioned to believe they were superior. W.E.B. DuBois questioned whether or not integrating the school systems was in the black students best interest. He believed that prejudice was still too prominent in society for blacks and whites to go to school peacefully. Black students could not learn effectively because they were placed in a hostile environment. DuBois believed that an operative school would need a strong relationship between the students and their teacher, and in a white school this type of relationship is rare because much of society is racist.
