How does the poet convey the sadness of death in 'On My First Sonne' and 'Mid Term Break'
             In both the poems; 'Mid term break' written by Seamus Heaney and 'On my first sonne' by Ben Jonson there is an evident theme; the sadness of death, the respective poets each convey this sadness of death in similar ways. These ways are: through the language, through the use of sound, and through the use of imagery, the poets achieve this conveyance very successfully.
             In 'On my first sonne' and 'Mid term break' the poets through the use of language accurately convey the sadness of death. This sadness is conveyed through what the poet is actually writing, In 'On my first sonne' Jonson writes "seven years thou wert lent to me; and I thee pay" the protagonist is mourning or 'paying' for the loss of his son, this sadness is intensified by the fact that his son was only young, seven, which adds to the sadness of the event. In 'Mid term break' Heaney conveys the sadness of death through his language in "a four foot box a foot for every year" this is sad as one realises how young the child was and that a child that young does nothing to deserve death. Jonson writes in 'On my first sonne' "Ben Jonson his best piece of poetrie" meaning his son was his best piece of poetry showing his love and therefore sadness at his son's death. In both the poems the writers accurately write their grief at the loss of their young relatives.
             In both the poems the poets convey the sadness of death through the use of sounds; however they do this in different ways. In 'Mid term break' Heaney uses many enjambments, these enjambments provide when reading large gaps between lines which would flow were they on the same lin
