             Organized Crime originated during the "Roaring Twenties." During the twenties there was a Religious Revolution and a Women's Temperance Movement that convinced the U.S. Government to make the 18th amendment, which banned the manufacturing, and the sale of alcohol. However it didn't ban the consumption of alcohol. This was called prohibition.
             The United States during the late twenties through out the thirties suffered from great economic losses. During those years from 1929; after the great stock market crash, until 1939 the U.S. was in what was called and remembered as the "Great Depression." During this time many people had no jobs, homes, or money to provide what is needed for their families. When the 18th amendment was put into place, the citizens of the United States, were not only without jobs and other things, they were without alcohol.
             Due to prohibition there became a common thing called bootlegging. Bootlegging was the illegal sale of alcohol by a person or persons. Bootlegging received this name because many times in the early part of prohibition there were little bottles of various kinds of alcoholic drinks, which were sold illegally to individuals, and were also sold at speakeasies. Speakeasies were created in a person's basement and other non-expected places like this, because people wanted a place to drink, so people opened speakeasies to sell alcohol illegally and make a profit. Also during the beginning of prohibition, the Mafia realized that there is a chance for great profit through the illegal production and sale of alcohol.
             The Mafiosi had many leaders, commonly referred to as "the boss" or something of that matter. The Mafia consisted of many lower ranked men, some referred to as "hit men," which would cover up the bosses' mistake, and would remove any threatening competition.
