             "The Bean Trees" Daniel Palomo
             In "The Bean Trees," by Barbara Kingsolver, you are given the chance to see how two characters that have different lifestyles come together. They deal with everyday problems, family relationships, and motherhood.
             Lou Ann chose a lifestyle that would cause her to get married, have a baby and move away right after high school. On the other hand Taylor did everything not to end up living that lifestyle. I think it resulted in Taylor being a more independent and strong person than Lou Ann.
             A good example of how different their characters are is how they deal with everyday problems. For example, the way they go about trying to find a job. You can see that Taylor is positive and Lou Ann is not. "Really, Ma'am I could understand why you wouldn't want to hire a dumb old thing such as myself" p.144. This statement tells Lou Ann perfectly, she has no self-confidence. She is insecure and does not stick up for herself because her husband continuously verbally abused her. Taylor on the other hand is very secure and is very self-confident when she is out job-hunting because she always had motivation and support from her mother. Eventually Taylor talk to Lou Ann and gets some positive idea in her to have her self-confidence come up.
             This can relate to someone I know. He is very insecure and does not think positively. He always says negative things about him-self. He has a friend, that in the other hand, is very positive and does not think about what could happen but just does it. Both friends try to make a soccer team. The first person is always getting nervous when he is on the spot. This makes him mess-up. The other person goes on the field with confidence and takes control of the ball. He knows that his friend is just as good as he is, so he tells him words of advice just like Taylor did to Lou Ann. These words of advice help both of them greatly. At the end they b
