Mike Nesmith

             The biography I did was on Michael Nesmith (also known as Mike, Nez and the
             occasional "Wool Hat") who was made popular by the 60's television show "The
             Monkees". Although Nez did a lot more notable things in his life time, he will always be
             plagued with this. The reason why I am doing my report on him rather than someone
             else is because I want to clear his name up in history. This report contains everything
             from birth, his childhood, his time with the Monkees, his music after the Monkees, his
             video distribution company, how he pioneered MTV up to his recent multi-million
             Michael Nesmith was born on December 31, 1943 to Warren and Bette Claire
             McMurray. After the war Bette divorced Warren Nesmith because of incompatibility and
             Warren left the family in poverty. In the 1950's Bette had been left some land from her
             Father and they moved to a Negro development in Dallas, Texas. Nez attended Thomas
             Jefferson High School and wasn't exactly the role model student. He made it clear he
             didn't like being there so it wasn't an upset to the staff when he dropped out in his senior
             year. The only class he did care about was his choir class, where he excelled at first
             tenor. In his junior year they got to do a musical and they did Oklahoma. His senior year
             His mother was really strict with Nez being that she was a Christian Scientist,
             which believed "God" will heal all wounds...no exceptions. At one point during his
             childhood he was playing with a sledge hammer and broke some bones in his hands, and
             they did not call a doctor. It has never set properly. She was also strict with music as
             well. He grew listening to Hank Williams and he had to tell her that he was a Harvard
             Graduate so that he could play it.
             His mother worked for a typing agency for most of her life. She found when she
             made a mistake she would have to cross it out. ...
