Beowulf and Wiglaf share the moral qualities of an epic hero in such ways. A hero is often a man that is usually of divine source. A hero can be found in many different forms. There are certain characteristics that make up a hero. Some of those characteristics are someone who is endowed with great courage, loyalty, consent, strength, and someone who is noted for special achievement in a particular range.
Depending on the book, Beowulf, the character is a hero or could show one heroic characteristic or more and still be considered a hero.
In the epic poem "Beowulf," Beowulf is the epic hero. He was an epic hero because of his virtues. Beowulf was true to his word: "I alone and the help of my men may purge all evil from this hall." Then, later on in the poem, he says, "The infamous killer fought for his freedom, wanting no flesh but retreat, desiring nothing but escape; his claws had been caught, he was trapped." In those lines, it is saying that Beowulf will go fight the evil, Grendel or the "infamous killer," and then did and killed him and have Grendel begging for mercy. He also was brave in many other ways; for example, "When my danger is near, the warm words we uttered, and if your enemy should end my life then be," that was when he had to fight Grendel's mother. When he fought her, he was brave by fighting her by himself, only with swords and armor. Another time when mighty was courageous was when he was going to fight a dragon.
The third virtue Beowulf expressed was that he would make his father proud. He made his father proud by
following in his father's footsteps. His father was very well-known; Beowulf says, "My father was a famous soldier, known far and wide as a leader of men. His name was Edegtho.
