             When economists wrote introductory textbooks on economics. They have to use Robinson Crusoe as their example, because he was alone initially. This example really gives us an idea of economic scarcity and the effect it has. It really gives you an idea of what kids and families in the same situation. Crusoe's economy didn't have money because it was a world without a division of labor or exchange. He had no idea how he was going to overcome the scarcity. He needed food, clothes, and shelter, yet he was able to get most of his tools from his ship. If he wouldn't have been able to get those tools he wouldn't have made it for 28 years.
             When a person has limited resources, they have to make decisions about how to achieve/reach their goals. You can't achieve them all at once so you have to figure out what comes first and what goes last. He has to depend on nature to supply his needs. When determining what tools to keep and what not to keep, he looks at their use in the instead of the past. People ask why doesn't he part with his tools and stuff to increase his wealth? The answer is that there was no need for money in a one-man environment. Grain could have served as money because it has the five essential characteristics
             (A) Divisibility – because you need to count things
             (B) Portability – is obvious, you have to be able to transport it
             (C) Durability – is important too
             (D) Recognizability – is crucial if you are going to persuade someone to trade
