Patriarcha, "The Naturall Power of Kinges Defended against the Unnatural Liberty of the people." Contains arguments that are Theological, Rational, Historical and Legall. In pages 1 -50, Sir Robert Filmer speaks his opinions and views about the Monarchal systems. He writes about all of the ancient monarchies in history till the time of his writings. Comparing and contrasting Noble Kings to ancient Fathers and Doctors to illustrate his thoughts.
'Mankind is naturally endowed and born with freedom from all subjections, and at liberty to choose what form of government it please, and that the power which any one man hath over others was at first by human right bestowed according to the discretion of the multitude.'(Filmer 2) Was taken from a pasggage that he wrote that added to this book. He thinks people are almost born with the idea that they must follow a leader. That may come in the form of a King or a God to most people. A good percentage of people throughout time think of their King as a God.
However, many King thought of them selves as Gods. "For according to quality of the thing commanded an active or passive obedience to be yielded, and this is not to limit the prince's power, but the extent of the subject's obedience, by giving to Caesar the things are Caesar's etc. ( Matthew xxii,21)". This was used by Filmer to make his points clear.
Lastly, he site specific Kings and speaks of the strengths and faults. He then compares them to other Kings, and ancient philosophy and Prophets. He also talks about his thoughts and opinions on all Kings , Gods And Nobles.
