             1-Bunker Hill: (1775) happened near Boston. General Gage led his British troops in an attack on the colonial militia. The militia was made up of farmers and merchants and who ever was a free African American. The Americans fought well, but had to retreat when they ran out of ammunition. The Americans proved that they can fight the British army.
             2-Lexington & Concord: (1775) they wanted to defend the colonies. George Washington was chosen to take command of the colonial army.
             3-Saratoga: (1777) it was the turning point of the revolutionary war. General John Burgoyne led a British army south from Canada in to New York state. General Horatio Gates, led the American army .The Americans defeated the British.The first victory at Bennington, Vermont, was followed by 2 victories at Saratoga, N.Y.Burgoyne surrendered his entire army.
             4-Valley Forge: (1777-1778) General Howe moved his army from N.Y to Philadelphia. Washington was forced to retreat to the small Pennsylvania town Valley Forge. In the winter the soldiers were suffering, they ran out of food,ssupplies,etc. But Washington refused to give up. He made them train & made them get ready to fight the British army. He made the Continental Army stronger, with help from General Federick von Steuben who was German & took charge of training them.
             5-Yorktown: (1781) Washington & his army arrived here from N.Y. French army led by General de Rochambeau joined the Americans. French blocked the British from aiding Cornwalis. The British army surrendered.
