The emergence of the Internet has changed the music industry in many

ways. The Internet has made listening and getting music more easier and

sufficient. Now if you want o listen to songs, you can log on and just download

whatever song you wish. Why spend money for just one song you enjoy when

However, musicians think that this will lead to loss of money and record

sales, but others contends it stimulates more buying. But downloading songs can

mean far greater input from fans into what they hear. If a sample of a song is put

out on the Internet, fans can have a say if they think it could be a "hit." As the

article states, five years from now, one fourth of all music sales in this country will

be online. And more than one fourth of that sum will come from listeners digitally

downloading music rather than using the Web to order CDs. So the argument

that the Internet will put musicians and their labels is inaccurate. I think it will help

the music industry and the artist gain more notoriety.

I downloading many songs from the Internet, mainly Napster and some of

the songs I did download I went out and bought the album. If I like the artist I'm

going to buy the album, and I think that holds true for many people. Downloading

songs can be time consuming and sometimes difficult. Also the quality of sound

is not the same as if buying the CD. It doesn't make you appreciate the music,

and it is not fair to the musician if they put everything they have into and album,

and not get paid for it. So just like everything else in life, the Internet has its good
