neuroticism showed no differences in parental background. It has been argued that such studies that show differences are due to differences in neuroticism as opposed to homosexuality.
             Studies have found a link with childhood behaviour and adult homosexuality (Saghir and Robins, 1973). Saghir and Robins 1973 in a retrospective study found that 57 per cent of homosexual males stated that there had been named 'Sissies' during childhood compared to only 3% of the heterosexual males. They also found that more homosexual males than heterosexual males had no male friend and played mainly with girls and didn't like participate in sports.
             Whittam (1977) let male participants complete an inventory that asked them about their childhood experiences in playing with dolls, cross dressing, friendship with girls, being seen as a sissy, and the nature of childhood sex. They found that 97% of the homosexual males had experienced at least one of these experiences whilst 74 per cent of the heterosexual men hadn't had any of these experiences.
