I was sixteen years old, ready to enter my sophomore year in high school. My parents
were in the middle of what I call a nasty divorce. This was definitely a horrible summer. I
was facing some hardships in life, and I had the worst summer a kid could have.
That summer I went camping and met my father's girlfriend. It was exciting, until
my father took us to his girlfriend's house to introduce us to her. Then everything went

nice resort in Dennis and it was fun at first. I went golfing the first day. The course was
beautiful. I played very well and had fun. The next day my little brother and I rented bikes
so we could ride on the bike trails. It was fun, we raced, and I let him win. Then suddenly
the front tire of my bike came off the fork and threw me off the bike and straight into a
tree. I was able to get up and make my way to the street with blood dripping everywhere.
I yelled at the cars to pull over and help. One person finally stopped and called my father
from his cellular phone. My father and his girlfriend came and got me. When I got into
the car I felt my side and it felt hard, like my older brother's did when he ruptured his
spleen playing football. I told my father so we stopped at the general store in Harwich
where he called an ambulance. The EMT's took me to Cape Cod General Hospital, where
they took x-rays. The x-rays turned up negative, and I was treated for lacerations on my
back, arms, and legs. I was mad when I heard my little brother tried calling my mother but
my father's girlfriend hung up the phone and stoppe...
