The Funery Documents all suggest paths to eternal life, however, as the time passes on, there are very noticeable differences in the thoughts behind these writings. It appears to me that as the time passed on, the philosophies behind these writings began to have a bit more thought to them, even a little bit of hesitation to their thought. I will continue to write about topic #3 in the upcoming pages.
             A Pyramid text talks about a wonderful afterlife. The Gatekeeper is rejoicing your coming to heaven. He kisses and caresses you, takes you by the hand and leads you into heaven. A great feast is to be prepared in your name as ordered by your father Geb (21). A Pyramid text is believed to be written during The Old Kingdom that fell between the time period ca. 2600-2125 (18). This period is also believed to be the only period which great burial pyramids were constructed to ensure a kings safe journey to the afterlife (18).
             A Coffin Text, like a Pyramid Text, also suggests a trip to the afterlife but the times had changed upon the writings of these documents. These texts were written during a time period that is known as The Middle Kingdom, which fell from ca. 2060-1700 (18). Some key characteristics of this era included a revival of central authority and a deeper awareness of social justice and personal moral responsibility (18). Also, many Egyptians came to view eternal life as available to all Egyptians rather than just kings and priests (18).
             A Coffin Text begins with the god Re speaking to somebody who has recently passed away (18). This god claims to have created the world and everything within it. He claims to have made every man like his fellow and gave every man the gift of a freewill and that he never ordered any wrongdoing, it was merely the heart of the character (20).
