Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, Sexual harassment and OSHA in the Work Place
             The women that worked at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in 1911 experienced many unfortunate happenings in the workplace. The woman experienced extremely long days, sexual harassment, and unsafe working conditions. These aspects led to 146 deaths on the Saturday afternoon, of March 25, 1911(www.irl.cornell.edu/trianglefire/ infopg1.html), when a fire broke out on the top floors of the Asch building. All of these unfortunate deaths could have been avoided if the owner had kept the building safe for employees to work, and if he had the proper maintenance done to the building that the employees worked in on a daily basis.
             OSHA is the occupational safety and health administration. Safety is defined as the protection of employees from injuries caused by work-related accidents (Mondy and Noe 366). Health is an employee's freedom from physical or emotional illness (Mondy and Noe). Their job is to save lives, prevent injuries, and protect the health of America's workers. To accomplish this, federal and state governments must work in partnership with more than 100 million working men and women and their six and a half million employers who are covered by the occupational safety and health act of 1970 (www.osha.gov/info/mission.html).
             OSHA has many services that they offer to companies throughout the country. OSHA and it's state partners have approximately 2100 inspectors, plus complaint discrimination investigators, engineers, physicians, educators, standards writers, and other technical and support personnel spread over more than 200 offices throughout the country.
