The First Presidential Debate - 2004
Whether you are a supporter of George Bush or John Kerry, I am sure you would agree that the entertainment factor was definitely in effect this night. I truly enjoyed watching this debate The issues were hot and mainly focused on the "war in Iraq." We knew that Iraq and the "war on terror" would be the center of debate between the two candidates. Would bush be able to defend himself and his policies against a Yale graduate with a degree in Law? I think he did a fairly good job given the circumstances. Clearly, John Kerry would have won the debate if it were to be scored as a boxing match. But, in my opinion, Bush seems to be the better presidential candidate for our country. I see Kerry as someone who is simply trying to sell himself, and I see Bush as a "Good Ol' Boy" who simply tells it like it is, tells you what he knows, and goes up on stage as himself, not what the public wants him to be.
We all anticipated that John Kerry would come out as the aggressor. He could easily attack and blame Bush for the mess in Iraq. He had so much to use to his advantage and he did use it all. Kerry attacked President Bush for his apparent rush to go to war, inability to clean up the mess, action and reaction to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, and Bush's inability to finish the job in Afghanistan. Honestly, he did a great job of verbally battering Bush and making Bush look really bad.
Kerry repeatedly mentioned that he had a plan for Iraq and a plan for the USA. He said that he has a plan that would fix Iraq and get our troops out of there in six months. That sounds really good to the American public but what is his plan? And, if it were that easy to pull our troops out of Iraq, I do believe that George Bush would have done so already. Kerry to me seemed to be posing as a car salesman and acting like a tough guy which is something that he has never do...
