The French believed that if their country was to survive in the post-war world then she would have to pull all her energy into national economic reconstruction.

             April 25th 1945 was the day that saw the liberation of Italy after the Second World War. Liberation not only represented the end of the devastating war but also the end of 20 years of fascist dictatorship that affected one way or another all of Italy. The tide began to turn in July 1943 with the overflow and arrest of the dictator Mussolini. This was followed in September of that year by the flight of King Victor Emanuel IIIs family and various government leaders who abandoned Rome for the safety of allied occupied Southern Italy. Terms of surrender were imposed by the supreme allied command, which left Italy in complete disorder. The Italian army was surprised by the surrender and left without direction, causing them to disband and return home. Many were arrested by the Nazis and sent to concentration camps in Germany.
