Single and Multiple Child Families

Single child families and multiple child families have many similarities and differences. It is important to compare and contrast these two types of families because most families in the world have one or multiple children. Some examples of similarities and differences between the two types of families are spoiling, loving, neglecting, and household roles.
First, one difference between single-child families and multiple-child families is spoiling. In a single-child family, spoiling takes place because there is only one child and most times they get what they want. Many times parents will have more money because they don't have other children to spend it on. In multiple child families often times the children are not as spoiled as much. The parents may have money but they try to distribute it equally among all the children. One similarity between single-child families and multiple-child families is love. Though different families show their love in different ways, there is still love. Some families may show their love by having a family meal, going to a movie, or even by having a family night to just play games and talk. No matter the size of the family there is always going to be love.
Another difference between single-child families and multiple-child families is neglect. Neglecting a child is more common in multiple-child families. With multiple children, the parents might pay more attention to one child than the other. For example, one child might be a star athlete and the parents go to all their games; while the other child may not play sports he or she may feel neglected or less loved by the parents. Another example would be the "middle child syndrome." The middle child syndrome is when the middle child feels pushed away or feels that the parents favor the other children more. In single-child families, neglect is less common. Since there is only one child in the family there is no need to compete for attention.
