             It would seem that there are some misconceptions about fraternities. Many studies have shown a relationship between fraternities and binge drinking on college campuses across America ("Research Agenda"). While, other forms of research have been done on fraternities and revealed that men who join fraternities are more likely to get a higher grade point average than students who do not male students who do not join fraternities ("ATO Facts & Firsts"). Studies conducted at the University of Indiana have shown that underage drinking has occurred within fraternities across America. The same study has also shown that underage "binge" drinking occurs at college campuses across America. To distinguish between these two statistics is very important. The difference between drinking and "binge" drinking is vastly different. The study done at the University of Indiana clearly showed that most fraternities that have been known to allow underage drinking allow drinking to occur in moderation ("Research Agenda"). It is a common practice in many fraternities to have initiates or "pledges" designated as sober drivers for brothers of the fraternity during their initiation semester (Kean 56).
