             When looking at some of the major issues happening in our country we feel one stands out legalization of medicinal marijuana. The Federal government refuses to legalize marijuana for medicinal use, even though several states already have it legalized. For example California proposed proposition 215 (legalization of medicinal use) in 1996. We feel Medicinal marijuana should be legalized throughout the United States.
             For years, there has been a controversy over the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana is a drug made from the top of hemp plants. In the United States, it is classified as a narcotic drug that has been illegal since 1937. People think that because it is illegal that it has no medicinal purposes but they are wrong. A study commissioned report by the National Academy of Sciences determined that, "marijuana's active components are potentially effective in treating pain, nausea, the anorexia of AIDS wasting, and other symptoms." As found on the CNN web site, "Weed Wars," there are other medical benefits of marijuana for cancer patients and many others. For cancer victims, marijuana's active ingredient, THC, reduces vomiting and nausea caused by the chemotherapy and alleviates pre-treatment anxiety. Marijuana also improves the appetite and forestalls the loss of lean muscle mass in AIDS-related wasting patients. People who suffer from multiple sclerosis can smoke marijuana to r!
             educe the muscle pain and spasticity caused by the disease. It may also help some patients with bladder control and relieve tremors. Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in the United States. It is caused by increased pressure inside the eyeball. Marijuana, when smoked, reduces the pressure within the eye. For people with epilepsy, marijuana may prevent seizures.
