In a letter Jefferson sent to the Danbury Baptist Association he states, "The first Amendment has created a wall of separation between church and state" (Barton). Remarkably, this letter was sent January 1st, 1802. "Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessing upon us, our parents, our teachers and our country" (Blanshard 1). On the 25th of June in 1962, the United States Supreme Court banned this prayer from the secular schools of New Hyde Park, New York.
