             Between the years of 1920 and 1923, just after World War I, the country of Germany suffered through a period of crisis. What is it that caused such a damaging phase in this country? The Allies in Germany had established a destructive government whose only achievement was the wide spread of universal sufferage (INSERT). The Weimar Republic was born out of turmoil and defeat, under near civil war conditions and hampered by a harsh peace settlement and an unstable economy. It is because of this that Germany was then constantly subjected to attacks from left and right (INSERT).
             In november of 1918, a parliamentary republic was proclaimed in Germany known as the Weimar Republic. The Weimar Republic was named after the town in which it was developed (INSERT). It was a poor excuse for a government and was doomed to fail from the start. A government can not properly operate when not wanted, encouraged, nor expected by the public. There was a large number of Germans who rejected democracy as a form of government (INSERT). Because the constitution could not provide stability in Germany, the country and its people suffered greatly (INSERT).
             Moreover, the economic impact of the Treaty of Versailles was crushing. Germany lost 13 percent of her territory, 10 percent of her population, 15 percent of arable land, 75 percent of iron and 68 percent of zinc ore, 26 percent of her coal resources, the entire Alsatian potash and textile industries, and the communications system built around Alsace-Lorraine and Upper Silesia. Huge amounts of ships and shipping facilities and of railway rolling stock were delivered to the Allies.
             Their economic misery made them susceptible to the claims of extremist political parties. With all the negative attitude, the disrespect, and the disappointment the people expressed toward the government, rebellion became a necessity.
