The "Federalist Number 10", written by James Madison proved to be an enlightening piece of work. I found it arduous to decipher the message of the article and found it difficult to believe that people in the seventeen hundreds could comprehend all of it. Despite this, Madison brilliantly described his plan and why he agreed to establish a stronger central government. He was absolutely correct when he stated it is impossible to have a pure democracy. There will always be one group or faction of people that seek to gain more power than the rest. I agreed with Madison when he said we would better off as a republic than a democracy.
             The article basically said a republic is better than a democracy because it would provide a stronger central government that let state governments' control their own affairs. This would happen because the central government would deal with national and international affairs so the states could concentrate more on the local matters. Luckily, this is what actually happened and it turned out to be an excellent system. This was an ingenious explanation Madison created to help ratify the Constitution. Without this our country might never have been what it is today.
             Madison explained that in a republic you would have more diverse and interesting political parties. With a democracy, you would have fewer political groups so it would always be easier to obtain a majority vote on a topic. There would always be one party that held a majority vote; this meant one group could control the vote and their views could never be overridden. With more political parties you would spend more time during a vote and it would be tougher to pass a majority. I strongly believed Madison was right in his thinking.
