             Probably the most similar of all however, was the beginning of the Age of Expansion which was often compared to the Stagel Era. One writer once quoted, "The Stagel Era was to the Age of Expansion just like how Roosevelt's 'New Deal' was to Truman's 'Fair Deal'." Basically what that writer was pointing out was that the Age of Expansion was just a continuance to the Stagel Era. Many new franchises were being formed and many teams were choosing to move to much larger cities. In 1962, the National League added two new teams - the New York Mets and the Baltimore Colt .45's
             The Mets were considered the worst team of all time as their record stood at 40-122 that season. They weren't the worst team just because they lost so many games but because of how they lost them. There were so many instances where they could've picked up a couple wins but by careless mistakes, they blew many close games. For example, in one game against the Phillies, 1st baseman Marv Throneberry came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs and the Mets were down 3-2. There were men on 2nd and 3rd. He hit a sharp fly ball into the left field wall, which could've resulted in a triple. Throneberry ran into third base easily but there was only one problem. He forgot to touch 1st and 2nd base so he was tagged out and the Mets lost the game.
