us' pictures you get a sense of sadness, you do not know if she is compassionate or cruel in her photographs. You do not know if you want to love her or hate her. I also feel that Arbus in a way shows us the perspective on human nature, on what is truly there and we do not want to see. Her photographic subjects are in way eccentric. Her sitters are the people who one would never consider photographing on the streets. The reason why I think we would never consider photographing these subjects is because we view people with any physical disadvantage to be morbid and cruel.
             Richard Avedon caught my attention; his exuberant photographs show beauty, and never showing how much hard work it was. Diane Arbus and Avedon were both fashion photographers that aimed for different styles. His fashion photographs are characterized by strong black-and-white contrast, creating an effect of severe complexity. In his celebrity portraits, he dramatizes the model's personality with such effects as an empty, stark white background and a frontal, confrontational pose. What Avedon did with his style was to add allure into his photography. Although Avedon and Arbus worked in the same field, their idea of beauty towards society was completely different. What Avedon did to fashion photography was to add elegance. This elegance was not real, but it determines what beauty is in our society.
