Gold Necklace

             As I was getting ready for to emigrate to United States of America, each member of my family gave me a keepsake. I liked all of the presents that they gave me, but after awhile, the present that my father gave me became my favorite object. My father's present was a necklace. The necklace is a butterfly with gemstones on each wing that hangs on a golden chain. It used to be seen only an object by others, but my gold necklace is more than just a piece of gold. Each part of the necklace symbolizes something about my personality.
             Although everyone views the butterfly as the last item on the necklace, I see it as the first item that describes my identity. As a butterfly breaks out of its cocoon to gain freedom, I was trying to find a way to have freedom two years ago. When I was done with high school, most of my friends were sitting at home waiting for a suitor to come for them. However, I was trying to find a job. In Iran, the majority of people are Moslem, and everyone has to observe the Islamic rule throughout the country. So women need to wear scarf and cover themselves from men all the time, and they don't have the same rights as men, which is part of Islamic religion. A lot of women are housewives and they don't work outside the home. In Iran, Women endure the most severe types of discrimination and injustice. Many girls, for various reasons such as forced marriage, restriction in having a boyfriend, not following the traditional dress code and even their desire to educate themselves, either run away from the house or commit suicide by self-burning.
             Iran's religiosity is its most striking cultural feature; it pervades all aspects of life.
