This journal covers ths issue on a preschool education for children of all financial backgrounds. It mainly focuses on a preschool system called the Head Start program. This preschool is directed towards children with low income parents who cannot afford preschool. In this journal is states that Head Start has failed. Poor children are still behind socially and educationally. A statistic in the journal says that a five year old from a low-income family has a five thousand word vocabulary, while a middle-class five year old has a twenty thousand word vocabulary. It's a fact the lower income parents do not send their children to preschool for the simple fact that they do not have the money to send them. They would at least have a fair chance at a quality preschool education for their child if there were more Head Start programs available, which there are not. The President's budget will not allow Head Start to grow, even though the program misses more than half of the children that are eligible to attend this preschool. With exception of the United States, most industrialized countries provide free, high-quality preschool, regardless of family income. Even though the United States is far behind in importance preschool education, Georgia is the head of the preschool class. Its program currently serves more than 63,000 four year olds.
             I believe that you should never put a price on education. Every child, no matter what background they come from, should have a strong quality education. It would not be fair to tell a child that they cannot learn what their friend is learning because their parents do not make as much money. Children cannot help their parents financial situation so why would anyone want to deprive them of learning for something that is completely out of their control?
