lives involve production which is what we do in the real world or working world in the public realm. While, women's lives involve reproduction which is reproducing the next generation. Socialist feminists do not separate production and reproduction. They feel the control men have over women are consistent with their social roles as consumers, mothers, and supporters of their family. They feel the feminization of poverty is also a factor in keeping women powerless. Socialist feminists realized that there are offenses only women can be charged with like prostitution and pregnant drug addicts. According to Francis Heidensohn, a socialist feminist, women offenders are young, uneducated, poor, substance abusers who have experienced physical and sexual abuse. Socialist feminists advocate to change the structure of society. Activities involved in reproduction are punishable by the law.
             One example of how women are powerless to control law is the laws against prostitution. Women have a sexual capital that is criminalized. Society defines women as "good girls or "bad girls." The "fallen girls" are subject to harsh punishment. The worst and most deviant label in society is a prostitute or whore. Women are targeted by these stereotypes not men. Socialist feminists use prostitution as an example of how women are controlled by men in our society. How would the lives of these prostitutes be different if prostitution was legal? In most cases of prostitution women feel they have no other options which is why they resort to prostitution. They have few resources and not enough money to support themselves or their children. They are often ostracized from their family and have no one to look out for them.
