             "They are the best live band in America," said Senior Eli Wilson. He is referring to the band Phish. It all started in 1983 when the lead singer Trey Anasatsio hears John Fishman playing his drumkit from outside his dorm-room door. He also walks by a room and hears Jeff Wegman on his guitar. The three of them get together and post a sign: bass player needed. Mike Gordon answers the sign; they get together and jam for a night.
             They practice in the dorm lounge and make a demo tape. They play their first gig as "Blackwood Convention" in the basement of a conservative dorm. They use a hockey stick as a mic stand, and play two songs, and eventually are shut down so that a Michael Jackson tape can be played. Later that year Jeff Gordon is replaced by Page McConnel and they rename them selves PhishThis band which tours nearly year round has grown to have a very almost cult following in the last decade. They were just recently on the cover of Entertainment magazine and Rolling Stone. They are a band that plays a wide variety of music from rock to country and everything in between. Covers are probably what they are known most for. A cover or cover song is when performs a song originally sang by another band.
