Medieval heroes and modern men are two very different people, but there are some qualities that link these two characters together.
             In medieval times, heroes had to rely on their strength. Beowulf had to fight all of his battles with his strength and weaponry. "Follower and strongest of the Geats-greater and stronger than anyone in his world"(Raffel l. 110-111). As shown here, Beowulf has to be reliant on his strength to help him through his everyday struggles. On the other hand, Ice Cube, a modern man, fights his battles with his intelligence. "Ice cube was raised in South Central L.A., yet he managed to attend The Phoenix Institute of Technology, where he studied architect drafting"(www. jediknight .net). Here you can see that Ice Cube is an educated man, who fights his battles with wit.
             Although these characters share different beliefs, and live in different times, they still share some of the same qualities. For example, Beowulf possessed the quality of heaving great courage. " I drove 5 great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth. I swam into the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean, killing them one by one; death was my errand, and the fate they had earned"(Raffel l. 248-254). Here I talks about how Beowulf's courage allowed him to do all of these tasks, where a normal man might cower in fear. Ice Cube's courage is different; his courage comes with being a pioneer of the rap industry. " The albums extreme politics, violence and profanity, set a new standard for rap music"(www. jediknight. net). Ice Cube had the courage to come out with such a provocative album, when rap music wasn't well known or appreciated throughout the world. In doing this, Ice Cube paved the way for future rap artist to come.
