Sometimes I feel sorry for people who aren't able or simply don't want to get out into the real world. They will never develop some of the key traits that improves the way you do things in life. Many of these traits are learned when you are around others. That's why I believe that people should be involved in group activities because they teach the most valuable lessons. When you are around people who have similar goals as you, it helps you learn these lessons. The best activities to be involved in are sports and jobs.
Getting involved in sports is one of the best things you can do. As well as learning lessons from a sport you will also get a chance to exercise your body. Football is one of the sports that I have learned many lessons from. Playing at the varsity level in high school taught me leadership, discipline, and it has helped me with setting goals. Last year I was team captain. Everyday I was prepared to take charge of the team and set a good example. I can see that I have developed these leadership skills today. At work I give help and advice to all of the new employees who are learning the same job, and when working in groups I try to be the one that takes charge to make sure tasks get done. In order to be a good football player, you also have to be disciplined. It took me a while to develop this skill. When I look back at some of the things I did before the season I can tell that I have become a more disciplined person. I used to be bugged when my brother would continuously bother me, but I learned to put the little things aside because the only thing retaliation did was get me into trouble. The other lesson that I learned from playing football was the value of setting goals. Our team set a goal at the beginning of the season to be conference champions. We never reached that goal, but wanting to accomplish it gave me the motivation to go to practice everyday and try my hardes
