They had distinct characteristics, such as fair skin, light hair and light eyes, with a healthy physical appearance. Another element of totalitarianism is the presenting of common enemies. For Germany, Hitler presented the Jews. Hitler turned the German people against the Jews. He says, "by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord." (Hitler, 564) He presented the Jews as the defilers of the human race. With speeches that promoted the Aryan race and demoted Jews, along with propaganda that showed the 'real truth' of what the Jews were, the German people began to share Hitler's vision.
             In a totalitarian state there is also the role of the citizen. The citizens must get involved. They can do this by joining parties or organizations. They should take part, but under supervision. Either you were with Hitler or you were against him. This is what got people like Alfons Heck involved in the Hitler youth.
