Debate

             Tonight's debate was over foreign and domestic policies. Both seemed strong in their own way, but overall I felt like Cheney came out on top. Edwards is a smooth talker who came out so aggressively and so quick, that it made him look boyish in comparison. Cheney is considered one of the most powerful vice presidents; he is smart, looked very focused, calm and seemed to have it all together.
             Senator Edwards and Senator Kerry both think the war in Iraq was the wrong war at the wrong time. Ifill ask, "Since they felt like this, if they had been president and vice president would Saddam Hussein still be in power?" Edwards felt like Saddam should be confronted, but in the right way. By doing it the right way he meant being prepared, giving weapons inspectors the time to search, and not taking our eyes off of the real terrorist, which are Al Qaida and Osama Bin Laden. Cheney said, "The fact is Kerry and Edwards have a limited view on how to use our military forces to defend us. They always seem to be on the wrong side of defense issues and they give no indication of being willing to go forward and aggressively pursue the war on terror with a kind of strategy that will work.
             Ifill ask, "What can your administration do to better the lives of those who are less fortunate?" Cheney said, "We have to provide good jobs, deal with tax policies, reduce the litigation costs, provide adequate medical care and create the opportunities that are vital to the process." Cheney also thinks the place to start is in education. He feels the better educated our children are, the better our society will be. I have to agree. Edwards on the other hand using data from 2003 feels like millions of people have lost their jobs, fallen into poverty, their income has went down and prices have went up.
