At 8:15 August 6,1945 The Atomic bomb flashed over Hiroshima. That on bomb alone had more power then even 20,000 tons of TNT and blew almost all of the city off the face off the earth. Much of this could have be avoided if the Japanese would have surrendered. But to them surrender was out of the question due to the Japanese code of honor which makes it way back to the old feudal days of the country.
             Near the end of World War 2 the Japanese were already defeated but they would not give in and lay down arms. They were still fighting the war out of pure habit. They would not admit they were beaten by August 1945 their navy and air force was almost completely wiped out, nevertheless they were bound by honor to continue to keep fighting. It was clear to everyone that eventually Japan would be defeated, however it looked as though the war would drag on for years and cost many thousand more American and Japanese lives. So to Americans the Atomic bomb was a savior a problem solver that would end this war once and for all.
             In the Potsdam Declaration of July 26,1945,Truman warned Japan of consequences, and prompt, immediate destruction if she did not surrender. But still Japan refused, they would take death over surrender any day they answer the Potsdam with a statement that said they would treat the declartion with mokusatsu(Contempt) .
             American soldiers were astonished at the fact that Japanese would commit suicide rather then surrender, when soldiers in the US were taught to survive at all cost so you can live and fight another day. To Japan's soldiers it was a great honor to be the first to engage in conflict with the enemy.
             It was also the samurai's inescapable duty to fight to the bitter end even in the face of death. The Japanese were guided by the age-old Samurai tenets: raw courage, unstinting obedience and contempt for death. So Japan's soldiers followed all the rules and codes of the old samurai....
