PURPOSE:
The purpose of this short article was to enlighten both adults and young people that close interaction and development between parents and their children are crucial to understanding the goals of both. The article further illustrates that sacrifices must be made to achieve these goals.
SUMMARY: The author of this article starts off by telling us that since the age of four her parents have taken an active role in her development by enrolling her in extracurricular activities above her normal schooling. She reflects on times when she wished she could have participated in friendly sleepovers or watched a certain television show. Realizing that after receiving a good grade on test that the sacrifice and pressure by her parents to excel was worth it. The influence and active role her parents portrayed in her early developing years resulted in her personality of always striving for more. The author also states her appreciation of the sacrifices her mother made acting as chauffeur for her as well as her two siblings. Later in the article Ms. Fienstien contemplates how she will raise her own children. She plans on using her parent's contribution in her development as the guide for how she will interact with her own children. Realizing that as time progresses!
and schools evolve it will become even harder to be accepted into a good college. In conclusion she surmises that without the encouragement and pressure from her parents she would not have been able to accomplish near as many of the goals and dreams.
