             The African government is not doing all that much to help stop the fuel wood crisis. The government must put an emphasis on logging to support the economy. With the declining impact of oil in the country’s economy, the government has to depend more and more on timber exportation to take up the slack. The logging industry is a mainstay of the nation’s economy, generating US$60 million in taxes alone, annually. It almost seems the government is encouraging logging so they can tax. For example, the government of Cameroon achieves its goals through taxing logging companies. They have imposed a 15 percent export tax on medicinal plants, like Pygeum bark. Employment also affects the government’s decision to rely on wood to maintain a solid economy.
