             At some points Being America was just flat out boring. The pages seemed to drag on forever. I didn't like or feel it was necessary for Purdy to explore deep into the history of things that didn't really matter to his book like the history of AIDS, the history19th century British colonialism, or the history of the Italian clothing line Benetton. I found myself just seeing the words on the page, but never really being able to grasp or understand them. I found myself reading the pages over and over again, but still failing to understand the whole concept. Reading a book like this was not relaxing like most books, but more of a chore.
