As scoliosis progresses and the curve gradually gets worse, many things will change that person's life. Because this is a slow growing disease, many people can go years without realizing that it's happening to them. The spine grows as a person grows through their teens, and as the curve starts small, it will eventually grow as well, into a much larger curve. People may only end up with a small curve which can be fused with a brace treatment, yet some might end up with a drastic curve that affects their major internal organs, breathing patterns, and posture as well. These large curves must be corrected with a spinal surgery, which is a long dreadful process that is hard on everybody. As well as the posture, and body deformation, there is also incredibly immense back pain that comes with this disease. Going through scoliosis is sometimes unbearable because of the tenderness and major aching you experience almost constantly. As many can imagine, this has a great impact on a persons self esteem or confidence, and this unfortunately burdens many with psychological disorders.
             Scoliosis is diagnosed to 2-4 percent of children between the ages of 10 and 16 years of age. (Warner, p.16) Adults have this disease as well, however because of the fact that by that point in their lives their growing process has been completed; only 10 percent of adults require medical attention. Adults who have scoliosis do not have to worry about it for the most part because even though they will most likely suffer the back pain, their curve will only progress about 1 percent of curvature each year which is insufficient to them ever having to have surgery, unless their curve was great to start off with.
