95 Theses

Religion has and will continue to be one of the most important ways a culture is formed. Throughout history from the emergence of the Catholic church, theologians and other scholars found flaws in the church's practices especially those in regard to the authority of a pope. These theologians like Martin Luther presented their ideas of how to change the church and from ideas like his we have the birth of new churches. Martin Luther as it was customary in those days tacked his set of ideas otherwise known as the 95 theses on the church doors.
Luther was fascinated with teachings of the church and understanding the truth about the scriptures. In the theses he addressed the issues of papal power, penance, and the way you should live as a Christian. Luther was unhappy with the idea of the pope granting penance (assurance of your soul being free from evil) for a price instead of out of charity. He said that the money being used on penance could better be used for managing your household or helping the needy. He focused on the idea of Christians all having the same benefits of Christ and the church. Luther refused the idea of the priest having the power to give penance to those "beneath" him.
Luther's beliefs contrived after his devotion to theology not only began the reformation of the Catholic Church but also led to other sects of religion like Lutheranism. One of his discoveries while studying was how salvation was obtained through faith.
