"I think people, especially in the post Rodney King era, are beginning to realize that we just can't study ourselves as separate groups.... We've gone beyond the need to recover identity and roots, and now we're realizing that our paths as members of different groups are crisscrossing each other," said Prof. Ronald Takaki of the University of California.
             This is a quote from our readings that I saw that really caught my attention. There are two different sides to this story. There is the side of Takaki, which I personally would like to see happen, where everything is going to have to work out. Then there is another side of the story. The story of the media being a profit maximizing agency. The newspaper goes as far as they can to have multicultural stories. It does seem that they really try to have stories in the paper to accommodate minorities. The problem is that most minorities live in areas that can't afford to buy papers, so it isn't shipped to those areas and isn't marketed to these people.
             America is the land of opportunities. Racial diversity should be considered an opportunity. AHANA peoples will grow in population faster than the white population. This will continue half way through the 21st century. Pretty soon there will be a more even population of races. This is because a lot of African Americans and Latino Americans have more kids than other races.
             I think that there will always be a small amount of racism in the country no matter what. That is pretty obvious. It is very hard to get rid of all preconceived thoughts but hopefully we will all be able to deal with all our problems. If everyone treats each other as equals like our constitution says, then we will have a joyful life.
