My beliefs are very different form those of the ancient Egyptian
culture. The purpose of this paper is not to belittle the beliefs of this culture. But to
state my opinion on this topic and to discuss the differences.
First, I would like to start off with the Egyptian view on a heavy heart.
The Egyptian culture thought that when they died that there heart would be weighed.
They believed that for every good deed that you ever had done your heart would
gain weight. And for every bad deed you have ever had committed that your heart
would lose weight. Thus it was better to have a heavy heart than to have a light at
the end of your life. Before they were to be let into the afterlife there heart would
have to be weighed. If their heart was to light they were unable to proceed to the
afterlife. I on the other hand always believe that a heavy heart would be a bad thing.
I have always looked at a heavy heart as a guilty conscience. The more bad deeds
that you have done the more your heart weighs you down making you feel guilty.
And to have a light heart would mean that, you have nothing guilty on your
conscience weighing you down to feel bad about. Though two totally opposite
opinions I can see why the Egyptians would of thought the way that they do.
Second I would like to discuss the difference between my religion
being a catholic and there religion worshipping the sun god. They saw there
pharaoh as the living representative of the sun god. When the pharaoh died, he
would join up with the sun god to govern Egypt form the inside. They saw their
afterlife as physical place were they would need tools, valuables and personal items
form this life on earth. Their afterlife was thought to be exactly like Egypt, only
perfect in every way possible. My religion however is very different than their
beliefs. For example were their pharaoh was their spiritual leader a priest is mine.
