             Violence in the household has been a problem in the United States for a long time. Until recent years, this very common and dangerous situation was not given much thought or attention. Many victims thought that they had done something wrong, or that they in some way deserved this abuse. The truth is that this is not usually the case, and many victims can suffer serious injuries, or even die.
             The first article that I found on this topic was written around the time of the OJ Simpson case. It was around this time that Americans really began to see what domestic violence could really lead to. The article is mainly about the stories of women who have been abused.
             The first story is about a woman whose husband beat her, cut off her hair with a knife, and even dragged her by a rope. She tried to get a restraining order on him, but this did not do any good. He would still follow her, and abuse her wherever she went. after Dana got her divorce, her husband would still stalk her. finally, a female police officer, who had once been the victim of abuse, suggested that she go to a shelter.
             The damage to her ear is permanent, and doctors say that she is likely to lose her hearing completely in the coming years. The scars to her emotions will always be there. She is still frightened, because she knows that someday, she will have to leave the safety of the shelter.
             The article also mentions a few reasons for this abuse. One is that the men might feel that this is their way of gaining control. They see it as a way of gaining power and showing that they are the strong ones in the relationship. Other causes include alcohol and drug use, mental problems, or growing up in an abusive household.
