To Be or Not to Be

             To be, or not to be; that is the question: To live, or to die.
             This question unfolds the answer to the entire soliloquy. Hamlet was
             faced with a conflicting situation, which left him torn from avenging his
             father's murder. Hamlet's dilemma made him explore the many universal
             questions that are left unanswered about existence and death.
             In this soliloquy, Hamlet has exhausted every angle in his mind looking for answers about life and death. He feels life brought him too much pain and woe spiritually, mentally and physically. He questions if it is really worth being alive? Not only is he questioning suicide, but he also feels if he should wallow in his suffering or take action and face the great sorrows of the world. He says, "Tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune". The "slings and arrows" are the conflicts faced by Hamlet and the rest of the world. He feels no one really understands how he feels inside. He feels why does he have to keep all this pain inside feel all this remorse for people and life. He feels detached from the world for the reason that nobody understands him. He feels out of place in life and doesn't understand why he has to stay in this dreadful world. Perhaps, this is the reason why Hamlet questions if he should take control against a se!

He says, "To die, to sleep-- No more, and by a sleep to say we end-- The heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to," He compares death to sleeping. He thinks if you are sleeping when dead, then death means an end to anguish thinking, pain, loving, feeling, suffering and remembering. If death were so simple he should only wish to die.
