Review of Beware Older Women Ahead

             In this article Frank Pitman M.D. looks at intimate relationships between older women and young men in movies. In many movies men in there fifties are paired with women in there twenties. A prime example was Six Days and Seven Nights filmed in 1998, staring Harrison Ford, who is 53 opposite Anne Heche who is 25. Also the perfect murder with Michael Douglas, at 55 and Gwyneth Paltrow, at 24 portrays an older man involved in intimate relationships. Pittman says that "Its a long standing film tradition." It goes as far back as 45-year-old Humphrey Bogart shacking up with Lauren Bacall, in Have and Have Not. And it can be traced back to the beginning of the film industry.
             According to Dr. Pittman these types of relationships have two meanings, the first being that it's is a dangerous world out there and that young ladies need a man even, an old man to rescue them from it. Next men feel more heroic when in the presence of a woman who is inferior to them, that is why most male's egos and even testosterone levels go up when they see those types of movies. This tradition has been continuing for so long that to most movie-goers it is common place; however woman are now becoming bored and long for more than the same old same old. They want to witness stories of older more passionate women. Even though women want this new genre of film, and have seemingly always wanted it, this type of film (except for a few recent films) is just not being produced. The most recent, How Stella Got He Groove Back, came 26 years after the last American December-May film (Forty Carats 1973) Stella is a 40 year old woman who falls in love with 20 year old man named Win!
