The United States came about differently deriving from her European counterparts in the beginning. Her political and governmental development was differentiated more towards a democratic form of organization. Developing from multinational communities came about the myth of the "American Dream"
All Americans rich and poor shared a common commitment to the constitution to each other and to the beliefs that differences are best reconciled by debate, compromise, and voting and those politicians that get the most votes in an election govern better than those with the strong hands to begin with, such as factions, those with wealth and property, powerful generals, college professors, and religious orders.
The power although claiming to still use democracy has indirectly altered this statement as in society today in terms of welfare government has manipulated its way into controlling the masses by distributing benefits and opportunity. There is a myth of individualism in the sense that a lot of people cannot make it on their own and only that a little percentage of the masses take control and benefit from the "American Dream". The Elites for that matter are the ones that are too most likely gain.
Individualism has created an insecure society where every person expects or needs a pat on the back. by doing this government sets rules and regulations for the masses in turn making mythodical the supposedly democratical form of rule.
Many immigrants traveled from foreign countries, there were advantages and disadvantages to this such that the lure of cheap labor was the way to go. So irresistible was the opportunity the government took advantage of it Mass came in mythodically thinking of prosper and to get ahead, many had nowhere to go but to the factories and become a number, a statistic. Government had control, again having to create laws and regulations on society.
