The Taming ot the Shrew on katherina Minola

             Does Kate end up at a casualty of male power games or is she liberated from her own self-inflicted defensiveness in her relationship with Pertruchio?
             In the play The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare, Katherina Minola is the daughter of Baptista Minola. He is known as a wealthy man with two beautiful daughters. The eldest daughter Kate is known as a sharp-tongued, quick tempered and violent female that would never conform to a man's authority. Kate is portrayed in this play as an independent liberal woman and at the same time in other individuals' eyes as a fiend of hell. Kate's father wants her to marry and have a life of her own before her younger sister goes out to get married. Her rudeness and smart mouth portray her cunning ways of showing us that she will not transform into the norm of married women. At the end of the play her bold transformation helps her marriage in an enormous way. On one hand, is the fact that her husband will indeed respect her more and on the other hand she will increase the self-dominance in herself and her marriage.
             In the very beginning of the play, Kate is told by her father that she must be married soon before her younger sister Bianca does. At this point in time Katherina refuses to marry any man. Kate refused to be passive and controlled by any male. "What, shall I be appointed hours, As though belike, I knew not what to take, and what to leave? Ha!"(I.i. 103-105) In this statement by Katherina she feels that marriage will be a huge burden and sacrifice on her life. Kate feels that she is too independent to rely on any man's word or obedience.
             Before long Kate meets Petruchio the most eligible bachelor that plans to marry her due to her large dowry from her father. Petruchio is portrayed at times as grossly misogynistic, possessive, and condescending. His main goal in this is the fact that he does not go into in the marriage for love and want...
