             In essence, The Taming of the Shrew is a love story. However the forms of 'prearranged' compared to 'free' love that it manifests, is a main theme of the play. The play is set in a time when marriages were made for the convenience of the fathers far more than for a love already existing between the bride and the groom; people often married without having known eachother for very long, and sometimes without having ever met.
