             What one aspect of life can bring us endless happiness and a sense of fulfillment, but at the same time bring sadness and sometimes betrayal? The answer to this question is a priceless and fragile gift that everyone experiences-- friendship. Friends may come and go during one's life, but those that are true friends will stay forever. True friends bring out the best in each other, are loyal and honest, have a mutual relationship, accept each other, and are available and generous with one another. These qualities are best exemplified in the relationship between C.C. Bloom and Hillary Whitney in the movie "Beaches."
             According to Walter Winchell, "A friend walks in when the whole world walks out." This saying describes perfectly the way that C.C. and Hillary met for the first time and started a beautiful relationship. Hillary, a child of a wealthy family who was well dressed and well behaved, had strayed from her hotel and found herself lost. She came upon a young girl who was smoking a cigarette and seemed like the rebellious type. This girl was C.C. Bloom. The two automatically seemed to click and each was exposed to a small part of the others life. Hillary experienced first hand the great talent of C.C. and in turn, C.C. encountered the well-to-do life that Hillary led. Regardless, however, of their completely opposite lifestyles, the two accepted each other and decided to remain friends. They had already established a strong quality of friendship by accepting each other for the people they are and they will continue to build this relationship by sending letters. In these l!
             etters they will come to an even better understanding of each other and also build a mutual and equal relationship. C.C. and Hillary already established two important qualities between friends.
