had reached the age of about 30, it was nearly time for Him to begin His ministry. But first, He went to John the Baptist to be baptized in the Jordan River. As Jesus walked out of the water, a voice from Heaven said: "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." (Matthew 3:17 KJV). After He was baptized, Jesus went into the desert where He fasted for 40 days. He spent much of this time praying. But Satan used this time to tempt Jesus. Satan tried to tempt Jesus with offers of instant glory and worldly power. But Jesus never gave into the temptations. And, Jesus quoted scriptures from the Bible each time that He overcame a temptation. Then later on Jesus went to holy city of Jerusalem and visited the Lord's Temple. When He arrived He saw that many people were selling animals and exchanging money in the Temple. This angered Jesus because the Temple was intended to be a place to worship God, not a place to operate a business and make money. Jesus made a w!
             hip out of some strands of rope and chased the merchants out of the holy Temple. Jesus said to them: "How dare you turn my Father's house into a market!" (John 2:16 KJV).
             About 400 years before the time of Jesus, a prophet of God named Malachi wrote this prophecy: "See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come," says the Lord Almighty. (Malachi 3:1 KJV). Christians believe the messenger was John the Baptist, who prepared people for Jesus' ministry, and the "Lord you are seeking" is Jesus Christ. Later on Jesus meets Nicodemus and explains the meaning of born again "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
