Pornography in the New Age

             With the birth of the Internet as a new medium to the public instantly the problem of pornographic material emerged. Pornography on the Internet should not be regulated due to the fact that it violates the bill of rights, the economy would suffer and it would need foreign support. This dilemma has brought out many associations with different opinions and many conflicts in government over the cost of the regulation.
             To begin with the constitution the very law of the land has amendments that protect the Internet from government interference. For example in the case of American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) v. Janet Reno, the ACLU claims that the Communication Decency Act (CDA), which regulates adult-oriented content on commercial Web sites, was unconstitutional. It was first found unconstitutional in a district court. The court stated that it would take away the rights of adults and was unconstitutional based on the fact that it is impossible to verify age on the Internet. The CDA was to bring down fines and charges upon publishers of "sexual advice columns, discussion boards on gynecology, and websites for a bookstore, an art gallery, the Philadelphia Gay News and others"(Fahrenheit 451.2: Is Cyberspace Burning pg. 5).              w was unconstitutional based on the fact that it violated the first amendment. The appeals court stated that the act would have to set "strict community standards" and that it is impossible to verify a geographical location of a user on the Internet.
